Removing an asbestos cement roof above a live data centre in Leeds, then re-roofing and re-cladding with Kingspan panels.
The problem
A data centre in Leeds needed its asbestos cement roof and wall cladding replaced, without putting the live equipment below at risk. A complex internal layout made safe working at height harder still.
The solution
We built a temporary roof over the building before any asbestos came off, with an integrated safety line and netting. The roof was then re-sheeted in Kingspan trapezoidal panels and the walls in Kingspan microrib panels with integrated louvres. We added a roof access hatch and a Soter stainless steel safety line, and renewed a lower flat roof with a vapour barrier, PIR insulation and an elastomeric felt.
The result
The data centre stayed running throughout, and the finished envelope carries a 25-year warranty.
